Hair & Lash Extension FAQ

Hair Extension FAQ

Tape-in Hair Extensions

Tape-in hair extensions are semi-permanent hair extensions that you can wear daily just as your own hair. If applied and blended properly, they look very real and no one would even be able to tell you have them! Tape-in hair extensions are, basically, taped onto about a one and a half-inch strip of your own real hair. They can be installed like a sandwich back to back for volume or they can be applied in singles and spread around more if extra volume is not what you are after.

Keratin Fusion & Hand-Tied Hair Extensions

Keratin fusion extensions are a similar form as beaded hair extension pieces, but instead of being mechanically crimped on, they are glued into your hair with hot glue. Lastly, hand-tied hair extensions are installed just as the name implies, the stylist attaches beads onto a row of the client’s natural hair, similar to the beaded weft method. The detailed process is ideal for those looking to add more volume and length that looks natural without putting too much tension on the scalp of the hair.

How real do hair extensions look, and can people tell I have them in?

The hair extensions that we would provide will be perfectly matched to your own real hair color. Therefore, the hair extensions will look very real and no one should be able to tell that you have them in – unless you tell them!

Will they damage my real hair?

Persons that have worn hair extensions for years sometimes report that their hair is a bit compromised from wearing the extensions. Or if your hair is naturally very thin or fragile, then you may need to be careful wearing extensions. If this is the case, our stylist will discuss it with you and will help you decide on the right hair extensions for you. Most of the time, tape-in hair extensions are the best option for persons with thinning, fragile hair. If you have thin or fragile hair, you may be a good candidate for tape-in hair extensions. Tape-in hair extensions can be applied as singles or doubles sandwiched onto your own hair. For thin-haired persons, it is a good option to install the extensions as singles to lesson the weight of each extension piece onto your own hair. When we maintenance the extensions, a solvent is used to remove the tape carefully and this should not damage your own real hair.

How long do hair extensions last?

You should be able to get at least 6 months to one year of use out of your hair extensions. This depends on how you take care of them. After a time, depending on how well you’ve taken care of them at home, the hair extensions will become worn and not as soft as they once were, or they may become damaged with too much heat processing.

Lash Extension FAQ

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are individual synthetic lashes of different lengths, curls and weight (thickness) cut in the shape of a natural lash and applied one-by-one to each individual natural lash as an ‘extension’ of your natural lash. Lash extensions are not strip lashes, clusters or flares. Lash extensions are meant to lengthen, thicken and enhance the natural lash line. You will feel no pain, discomfort or lash loss when applied properly. Lash applications is actually very relaxing and at times puts you to sleep!

How long does it take to apply lash extensions?

The lash extension full set application can take up to 1 1/2 hours, depending on the type of lashes you will be getting. The normal human eye has 60-120 lashes per eye. The more lashes that you have, the more extensions I can apply! This is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration. Therefore, it is important not to rush the process so that you can leave with a perfect set of lashes! You will be relaxing with your eyes closed, and you will feel no pain as this is a non-invasive procedure. Many of my clients are so relaxed that they often fall asleep!

Can my eyelash extensions be removed?

Yes. Your extensions can be removed at anytime. This takes about 30 minutes with an adhesive remover.

Can I still wear eye makeup?

Yes, but most clients don’t even feel the need to wear eye makeup…you will wake up and look rejuvenated! No more running, streaking, smudging, or flaking mascara. You can still use eyeliner and eye shadows as usual, as long as it is not pencil liner, as these products contain oil and will break down the adhesive.

Mascara is NOT recommended, as this will break down the adhesive, clump up the extensions and cause your extensions to come off earlier than expected. You will want an oil free makeup remover which helps to remove irritating debris and keep you lash line clean and is perfectly safe for use around your extensions. I recommend that you use a makeup remover with a fluffy brush or q-tip to gently remove any makeup near your extensions so that you never have to rub your lashes as this will cause your lashes to come off early.

How long do they last?

Lash extensions require touch ups every 2-3 weeks to maintain their fullness. The longivity of your extensions will vary based upon your natural lash growth cycle; if your hair grows fast, then so will your extensions, and fills will be needed more often. If you follow our instructions for caring for your lash extensions, your lashes will remain fuller longer. The average human eye sheds 5-7 natural eyelashes per day, this is 70-90 natural lashes within 2 weeks (half your natural eyelashes), this is why we recommend fills every 2 to 3 weeks. Fills over 4 weeks is considered a full set.

How do I care for my extensions?

Recommended to wait 24 hours to get them wet.

Never allow shower water to beat directly on your extensions. Constant pressure on the extensions can cause them to “pop” off or wear off sooner than normal.

Do not rub, pick, pull or twist your extensions.

Do not sleep on your lashes.

Gently comb the tips of your extensions with the spoolie brush provided as needed to straighten and “fluff” your extensions. Do not overcomb your extensions, or use the spoolie brush as you would with mascara.

Never use mascara on your extensions, as this will shorten the lifespan of your extensions, cause clumping, and dissolve the adhesive. You can use mascara on your bottom lashes.

Never use oil makeup removers on your extensions, as this will disolve the adhesive and ruin your extensions. Only use oil free remover.

Receive regular fills to maintain the fullness and natural look of your extensions.

Cleanse your eyelash extensions several times per week, if not daily.

Do not use lash curler, this will rip your lashes out.

Tanning beds, extreme heat, saunas, hot yoga can make the lashes lose there curl.

Saunas, hot tubs, or a steam machine during a facial can cause the glue on your lashes to breakdown and lose the lashes. When getting a facial request cotton rounds to cover your eyes.
